Anna Syperek - Twilight

Le vide-grenier du dimanche. Deux oeuvres de la Canadienne Anna Syperek (b.1951), née en Angleterre de parents anglais et polonais.

Elle étudie la peinture et l'histoire de l'art à la York University de Toronto puis, en 1971, part s'installer à Antigonish où elle apprend l'aquarelle en autodidacte.

Quelques années plus tard, elle reprend des études au Nova Scotia College of Art and Design d'Halifax pour se former à la gravure, et obtient son Bachelor of Fine Arts en 1980. Elle retourne ensuite vivre à Antigonish, où elle installe son atelier.

Son travail est profondément lié aux paysages ruraux et côtiers de cette région : champs, routes, fenêtres, arbres, lumières d’hiver… Des motifs très simples, observés avec une attention calme et patiente. Évidemment, ça me plaît beaucoup.

Much of what I paint is just around my house - looking out the window at breakfast, or something on the way in to town. Sometimes, I'm hit over the head with an image that I just must paint, or sometimes I see the same thing over and over and then suddenly I'm seeing it in a different way, and what I see is full of meaning, significance and beauty. I try to recreate that "seeing", revealing the truth, unity and coherence of everyday life.
