H.O.Tanner - Christ walking on the water

Le vide-grenier du dimanche. Deux oeuvres du peintre afro-américain Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859-1937) à qui ses peintures d'inspiration religieuse valurent une réputation internationale. Originaire de Pittsburg il étudie à la Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, où il a notamment comme professeurs Thomas Eakins et William Merritt Chase.

Puis, à l'âge de 32 ans, il part s'installer à Paris pour y suivre l'enseignement de l'académie Julian. Il y étudie la peinture de l'orientaliste - et portraitiste réputé - Benjamin Constant, et se lie d'amitié avec l'américain Eanger Irving Couse.
