Le vide grenier du dimanche. Deux clichés de la photographe américaine Ruth Orkin (1921-1985), dont j’avais déjà présenté ici, en août 2010, son image la plus célèbre : An American Girl in Italy. Née à Boston et élevée à Los Angeles, elle s'installe très jeune à New York où elle mène une carrière de photographe indépendante pour Life, Look ou The New York Times.

Ses photos racontent la vie urbaine, les gestes ordinaires, les hasards du quotidien : des scènes saisies sur le vif, pleines de mouvement et d’humanité.

« My mother said that when I was young I was constantly saying 'Look at this – Look at that'.

I think that taking pictures must be my way of asking people to 'Look at this – Look at that'..

If my photographs make the viewer feel what I did when I first took them – 'Isn't this funny... terrible... moving... beautiful?' – then I've accomplished my purpose. »
