W. Nicholson - Tablecloth (1934)

Le vide-grenier du dimanche. Deux oeuvres de l'anglaise Winifred Nicholson (1893-1981). Elle fut avec son époux Ben Nicholson une figure clé du mouvement d'avant-garde britannique dans les années 1920 et 1930. Par son mariage avec Ben Nicholson, elle était donc la belle-fille du couple de peintres William Nicholson et Mabel Pryde, et, pour faire bonne mesure, la mère de l'artiste peintre Kate Nicholson.

I like painting flowers - I have tried to paint many things in many different ways, but my paint brush always gives a tremor of pleasure when I let it paint a flower - and I think I know why this is so.[...] It is my faith that every flower enjoys the air it breathes.
